![]() Blessed Old Book |
I just love to visit antique shops, to see the beautiful things from past eras. They just don’t make things the way they used to; oh; they may look the same but they are not. Many of today’s goods cannot stand the test of time. It is still nice to look, knowing that I possess a treasure of greater value than anything found in most any antique shop. Antique Stores are doing a booming business these days and for a good reason; there is a new appreciation for the craftsmanship and skill that went into producing things from years past. Such skill is very rare so appreciation of older things has become the rage. Often upon seeing an object the shopper knows what he or she has found, a treasure, because they have researched the designer, the craftsman and they will know the year it was produced and most certainly the location. The price reflects the value and rarity of an item. A very precious piece of old furniture with a certain pedigree will be very costly, far beyond a well made piece of similar quality made today. People know the value; they have done their research because it is important to them. Why is it, then, that the fine craftsmanship of the King James Bible is passed over? It is a book with a real pedigree. Why anyone would choose a Bible simply because someone told them it is easier to read is to miss a very rich experience and in fact, what they have cannot begin to measure in value to the good old-fashioned King James Bible, that also has a year, 1611. There is simply no other Bible that can touch its quality. I will most likely never own furniture with a pedigree, but I own something of far more value. One day everything will burn in this world, but forever, Oh Lord, thy Word is settled in Heaven. (Psalm 119:89) As a family that uses the King James Version of the Bible we cannot deny the grace and benefits it has added to our lives, indeed, to our home. Enjoying our Christian liberty, this is simply the choice that is best for us. We are very simple minded, yet have studied its origins, from the men that translated it to the printing of it. It is unique in its history, convincing us that no other Bible can touch it in its accuracy, or its gracious style. In seeking to live simply, but truthfully, the Spirit led us to a stronger faith in God by revealing many things to us. Knowing its precious history makes me love it more; I know its value. Because the value is often not known by shopkeepers, you may often purchase it at a reduced price, same as with treasures in my favorite antique shop; it pays to know! A martyr’s dying prayer resulted in the birth of my Bible; men have died for my Book, their blood makes it more precious to me. In knowing that freedom always costs blood, I would never use a Bible where the blood has been removed even once. The saving power of blood is the only hope for the souls of this world. The literary quality is unmatched; this statement is without challenge. The personal and intellectual testimony of these men is unequaled by any other group of translators. Many versions were translated by scholarly, but lost people. My Bible holds no copyright; if you study through the translations, you can just about compare them to a thesaurus. There is vast evidence that changes were made strictly in order to meet regulations for obtaining a copyright. It would quickly become evident that the word replaced was a more common, easy to understand word in the King James. Many say that people who prefer the King James are unscholarly; they would be right if they say that of me, but my studies come from men and women that have studied these things; their intellect is not questionable. They are most scholarly and would be well able to debate the issue if challenged to do so for a worthwhile cause and not simply for the sake of an argument. Nor will I argue, but only freely state my deeply held belief. There is a supernatural force within the pages of the Bibles within my home that causes the Spirit of God to teach the meaning to my children, a thing that has been happening since they were little children. Unbiased tests have shown that by measuring syllables and so on, that indeed, this is the easiest translation to understand, but even if it were not, the richness of its history would make it a worthwhile read. My home is tranquil, even pretty, with its mass-produced and mismatched furniture. In most every room there is a thing that is a priceless treasure, a piece of literature with such rich history that were it known, antique stores would have one displayed in each lovely vignette they create. It will pass the test of time. If you are interested in searching out the pedigree of your Bible, please refer to a very easy to read book called “Things That are Different are not the Same”, written by Pastor Mickey Carter and another exciting book called “Final Authority” by Dr. William P. Grady. Both men are unquestionable scholars, yet their books are written so that the common man may have an uncommon faith and knowledge about a most uncommon book. Here is a link that would guide you to Dr. Carter’s book: http://www.landmarkbaptistchurch.org/ministrs.htm . Dr. Grady’s book may be purchased through this link or you may listen to it for free: http://www.biblebelievers.com/Grady/Final_Authority.html . While I know that everyone will not agree with me on this subject, I cannot deny sharing a deeply held truth that is verified daily by the goodness it has added to my life; it is one of the “crumpets” that I offer, to be received with thanksgiving or simply refused. My motive is pure; it is to offer advice in an area that years have shown me is sound advice. This short statement belongs on this site as a testimony to the goodness of simple thinking. Our country was built great by men holding this version of the Bible and did not become weak until the introduction of other Bibles. I do not know for certainty, but there does seem to be a correlation. The King James has a totally different lineage than all other versions; this is why it holds a pedigree, so to speak. It has earned it. Though I am passionate about America, I am most passionate about my family and my responsibility to speak truth to my children, to equip them before they leave my home. In today’s world, they need the best made sword available, so we look back to the old craftsmen. We feel we have equipped our children with the finest sword available, the “Blessed old book”.
